Gingerbread House 2012

On Saturday K & D attempted to make a gingerbread house!  And it turned out wonderful!  The 3 of us each had jobs.  K- She was the "icer"  she put the icing on the house,  D- he put the candy and grass on the on the house/lawn, and  J- she was the "massager" - she massaged the icing so the icing was ready for the "icer".  We all added candies and helped with the decorating!  And Santa even came to this house! Happy Holiday everyone!

Re Surfaced!

After a short break I am back by request!   Okay, so things you should know:

D's volleyball team won the City Championships- look at that trophy!  I would have posted more photos of volleyball however every time I took out the camera the team started losing.  The goodness was that D's team not only won the gold medal they were also undefeated all season (that would be all 12 games) But hooray for them eh?
Until later peeps.  (Off to Costco now for dinner - talk about 5 star meal!)

Baseball is Over

Well The A's placed 4th at the Western Championship this year. And ball is now officially over till Winter Camp in November. Here is a young man that came to our team as a pick up for Western's. He is 13 years old -5"11, & 180lbs of muscle. He won the home run derby contest at Western's. He is projected to go to the far in the baseball world, in the future. (He has lightning speed.) But most importantly- he was such an overall nice young man. And of course in front of him, our own heavy weight- D!! 11 years old -- 4"8, 80lbs !!! This age group can have the most difference in height and weight. It was so funny to look at the two boys together.

Favorite Wineries

While in the Oliver area and my son was busy at camp during the day, Brent and I had some time to ourselves to go and sample some of the wine from the region. Here are two wineries that I enjoyed. The first was burrowing owl- it's wines were ok, I liked the place because in D's grade one class- we adopted a burrowing owl, as a class. But what was more astonishing was the resort you could stay at here. (For approx.$300/night.) It would be so tranquil, relaxing and not crowded as you can imagine. Oh, to be rich.

Now for my new favourite wine. Gehringer Brothers Wines. May I recommend (being the wine connoisseur I am) the Auxerrois (white wine.) Tasty, tasty !!! Brent and I debated on whether to get one or two bottles, it was that appealing to us.
While waiting for Brent and Dawson to arrive in Kelowna, I went to the Grey Monk Winery and picked up some average inexpensive red wine too. Now, I just need some good company to come and enjoy a glass of wine with us!

For CLR

Here is the native winery that you had heard about on the radio. It is a beautiful property. They have the most luxurious resort that I will consider staying at next time, if in the area. Went wine tasting at this this winery, however, I didn't end up buying a bottle of wine to take home.

A quote by the Chief. I think you mentioned this, when we were chatting about this winery.
Putting a face to a name. Chief Clarence.
Next posting - I will show my 2 favourite cellars we visited.

Now this is summer

We arrived safetly in Oliver BC, for D's baseball camp. It is so beautiful down here. Lakes everywhere. Lots of sunshine and you know what that that means, HOT HOT HOT! If your missing summer where you live, come down here. The temp ranges from 30-37C and man, that is warm.
So we dropped D off at camp and have been enjoying the scenery and visiting two wineries, swimming and enjoying the beach.
Oliver's beach! Oh so nice. (I still enjoy a pool myself.) Guess I am not a beach girl.
Here are Pee Wee Provincial Champions in the NEON orange shirts.
I have a couple more photos tomorrow.

Team Provincials

D's baseball provincials are this weekend. So the boys on the team have decided to go and get funky do's. Here is my smiley boy waiting his turn at the hair dresser. Yes, his nose is healing well and the bruising is finally going away.
His mohawk.
His jersey number.
And his team logo.
I think it is pretty cool. He is pretty pumped to play - with his new look.

Summer Injury

Here is the face only a mother could love, right now. D with a broken nose. You cannot see the middle of the nose due to swelling. He is pretty bruised now. He is in good spirits and has been back on the field hitting balls and catching grounders. It will take 4 weeks for this to heal fully.

Summer Photos

So I have this new camera, and I don't take anything but photos of baseball with it. And I dont' want to bore everyone with baseball photos all the time, so I wondered what photos to blog this week? Well believe it or not I found a good photo for the "beetle" fans out there. Here is a nice little summer project to add to your freshly painted houses maybe????

July Long - Part Two

Here is the expensive ($170/night) boutique inn the team stayed at. It was so lovely! However with the flooding going on, those two trees close together, were half under water. The staff at the hotel make these banners to welcome guests during their stay. A very nice touch!
Dawson and a teammate got in some fishin at the inn. Dawson got 2 fish- a squaw and a cut throat trout.
Feeding the colt on the property was exciting. The colt was so friendly.

Now your probably wondering where the baseball photos are, right? We did go to Kamloops for baseball. Well it wasn't a good weekend in that department. We came in last place in the tournament. Sorry no photos. There wasn't many action shots to post. Maybe this weekend?

Wildlife - July Long- Part one

D finally got to see a bear. This guy was spotted by Perdon Lake, BC.
As we drove through Jasper Park, we saw many of these beautiful elk with their fuzzy antlers.

We must have seen at least 75 of these Mountain Sheep. Here is a young one. They had many young sheep in the group. They were so cute. (However their parents need to teach them not to stand in the middle of the road.)

He's Out at Second!

Our weekends are spent at the ball park. Our little boy is having a weak ball season this year. However he is always a pleasure to watch at second base. (All the parents and coaches tell us that. ) Way to go Kid, we are proud of you.

With my 40th birthday coming up soon, this photo really reminds me how time has flown. The Weebles treehouse. It was my favourite toy when I was 6 & 7 years old. Oh, it brings back good memories.

Grade 6 Trip

All grade 6's near the end of the year get the opportunity to go to a wilderness adventure camp for the day. It has ropes courses, climbing courses and the best of all, zip lines. This camp day was going to be alot for D. He is afraid of heights. But he made it thru the day with great success. Photo 1:
Zip linning. This was a 70 foot high zip line. This was a huge challenge for D. He did it!

This was a burma bridge, so you climbed about 10 feet high and walk across some rope/bridge. Unfortunately D wasn't so successful at this station. This was about as high as he made it before coming down. I was proud of him for trying.
And finally the wood climbing wall. He had fun, but didn't go to top to ring the bell. Oh well. Again he tried his best. So proud of my little brave man.
I think this was the best ever trip our school has taken. It did wonderful things for the children in Grade 6's confidence today.

Regina May Long

We spent the long weekend in Regina for a ball tournament. (Believe it or not.) Hard to believe it has been 4 years since we left there. The city has changed in many ways. Lots of new development. It was sure nice to visit family. Below is Brent's Aunt,Uncle and their super cute grandkids. I do miss them. As you can see it was hard to get everyone picture perfect! But this photo shows character, I think.

Here is D - getting ready for a big hit. Unfortunately, he struck out. It wasn't a great weekend for D and the A's.
As you can see he loves his ball. He is on the bench here chatting with his team mate. Happy as ever!
So these shots are taken with my new camera. I am pretty happy with it! Look for more photos soon.

The Healthy Escalator

How many people do you think would stand on a step and wait for the ride up before noticing?
In the next 48 hours I am getting a new camera. Hopefully I like this camera and keep it. (I've returned 2 Nikon cameras in the last 12 months from being unsatisfied.) Most importantly I will be able to take real photos again.

Double Congratulations!

Here is my Cousin David, who was drafted into the OHL this weekend. Congratulations David, you have worked very hard to get to this point, we are so proud of you.

And here is my Cousin Shaun with his FIANCE Brooke. Exciting!!! We are so happy for both of you.

I was a little sad this Easter weekend, as I was the only one in the household that the Easter Bunny didn't bring chocolate too. But I guess he brought me a BASKET FULL OF GREAT NEWS this weekend instead! I am so happy.

Mud Season is better!

As mucky as mud season is, I think it may be better than this!

2 years ago when I worked at the Holiday Inn, I met this women who was attending a Mary Kay event at the hotel. She was about 60ish and lived in Edmonton all her life. She said that in her whole life here in Edmonton, that a winter storm hasn't hit in April, only once-- that she can remember. And look it is now April and we are being hit with the worst storm ALL winter here. Many vehicles are stuck in the ditch, highways closed, school buses not running but schools open, and many power outages all over the city. What a day! And why do we remember people like I mentioned above, can anyone answer that? I always think of her as soon as I turn the calendar to April.

Spring Break 2012

The last couple of days of spring break we needed to get away. So this weekend we travelled to Calgary. It was a nice weekend. We just hung out at the hotel and swam, no agenda other than that. Enjoy the photos.
Dawson at Hooters having a coke. Enjoying March madness on the tv, (among other things!)

We went to a restuarant and I thought of Sarah. They had an Elvis section. Many Elvis dolls were in this section. My favourite was the smurf elvis! And no we don't know that guy in the black hoodie, looking right at the camera? I think he might have photobombed our photo!

This photo is for Carol and MJT. A new building in Calgary. The bow. It is 59 stoires high. It was supposed to be 79 however it violated the shadow bilaw in Calgary and had to be made 59 stories.

Finally a quick thank you to the local fire department who came quickly to our hotels false alarm at 8am. The kitchen doing up breakfast was smokin' hot! (haha) It turned out to be a sensitive alarm in the breakfast area. All was good.
